Location & Geography

Natchez is located along the southwestern edge of Mississippi, overlooking the Mississippi River. Natchez is built on high bluffs overlooking the river at an altitude of 195 feet above sea level. The City of Natchez is the county seat of Adams County and the county's only incorporated city.

Neighboring Communities

Vidalia, Louisiana is an immediate neighbor to the west of Natchez, just across the river. Although a river and a state line boundary separates the 2 states, their residents are intertwined and consider each other part of the same community. Vidalia rests in the low, fertile Mississippi flood plain, now protected by a vast system of levees. Vidalia is 1 of 4 incorporated municipalities in Concordia Parish.

Bridges & Roadways

The Natchez-Vidalia bridge connects Natchez and Vidalia and carries nearly 30,000 vehicles on average daily. The community has excellent 4 lane highway access in a number of directions. U.S. highways 61, 84 and 98 intersect in Natchez, connecting the city to Baton Rouge, Monroe, Memphis, Jackson and Mobile.

Interstate 55 is 60 miles east of Natchez via four-lane U.S. 84. The Natchez Trace Parkway, a 450-mile national park, originates in Natchez and winds through Mississippi through Jackson and eventually Nashville, Tenn., where the Trace ends.
